Your Light May Extinguish

A student of Buddhist philosophy studied extensively under different teachers.

He also spent a few years studying under the Zen master, Gasan.  As he was about to leave Gasan, the master offered these words of caution,

“Studying the truth conceptually is useful and affords you much preaching material. But unless you meditate constantly, the light of truth may extinguish in you.”
