Mokusen's Hand

A lay-disciple complained to Mokusen Hiki that his wife was too stingy.

One day, Mokusen visited the couple at their house.

Mokusen showed a clenched fist to his disciple’s wife.

The surprised woman exclaimed, “what do you mean by that?”

“What would you say if my hand were always like that?”

“It’s deformed.”

Mokusen opened his hand wide and asked,

“What would you say if my hand were always like that.”

“It’s deformed.”

“If you understand this, then you are a good wife.”

After this visit, the wife helped her husband in spending as well as in saving money.
